말똥비름은 돌나물과의 2년생 초본식물로 매우 강한 생명력과 번식력을 가지고 있어, 농경지나 도심에서도 흔히 볼 수 있으며 우리나라 뿐만 아니라 여러나라에서도 만나볼 수 있는 친구이다.

말똥비름의 특징
- 밑부분의 잎은 마주나기(대생)하고, 윗부분의 잎은 어긋나기(호생)한다.
- 밑부분의 잎은 달걀모양이며 엽병이 짧다.
- 윗부분의 잎은 주걱모양으로 점차 밑부분이 좁아지며 엽병이 없어진다.
- 잎  끝이 둔하다.
- 꽃은 6~8월에 개화하며 황색이고 꽃대가 없다.
- 취산꽃차례가 발달한다.

'말똥비름'이라는 이름은 꽃이 말똥처럼 몽글몽글 모여서 피고 잎은 쇠비름을 닮았다해서 '말똥'+'비름'='말똥비름'이 되었다.

Bulbose stonecrop is a biennial herbaceous plant from the Crassulaceae family, known for its remarkable vitality and reproductive capacity. It is commonly found not only in agricultural fields and urban areas in Korea but also in many other countries around the world.

Characteristics of Bulbose stonecrop :
- The leaves at the base of the plant are opposite (decussate), while those at the top are alternate (spiral).
- The basal leaves are egg-shaped with short petioles.
- The upper leaves gradually narrow at the base into a spatulate shape, and they lack petioles.
- The leaf tips are blunt.
- Flowers bloom from June to August, are yellow, and do not have a peduncle (flower stalk).
- They form a cymose inflorescence.

The Korean name "malttong-bireum" comes from the way the flowers cluster together like horse dung ("malttong") and the leaves resemble those of the plant known as "bireum" (purslane), hence "malttong" + "bireum" = "malttong-bireum".
